Around Campus - Winter 06-07

  • Beacon Hill
Welcome to our winter photo album. All photos here were taken by the staff of the Graduate Admission office around campus - just to be able to show you what campus looks like throughout the year. (None of us are professional photographers, hence they won't look like many of the other photos you'd see from a school.) (and as an FYI: all captions are the opinions and sole responsibility of the author, and do not necessarily express the views of Suffolk University.)

Note from your friendly neighborhood administrator

Blogging is not for everyone, and LuxuryLion has decided not to continue updating.  We in the Suffolk University Graduate Admission Office thank her for her contributions over the Spring 2007 semester, and wish her the best of luck.

That said, we've decided to keep this blog available as an archive, for those who may find the information of interest.

near finishing......

Tuesday

Many things need to be done in the last of each semester. One of these is evaluation of professors. I didn't make it before, so it is a new thing to me. I think it does a good method to communicate between management of school and students, but depends on how much they will focus on the final result. Actually almost all professors I met in this semester are nice and knowledgeable, while they have their own style. As students, most of us hope professors to give us a loose policy of grading; on the other hand, stricter professor can push us to learn more if we want to a higher grade.

I have a exam on Thursday, one presentation next Monday, one exam and one take home final exam due next Wednesday. After that, things still not be finished. I need to find my new apartment before I leave boston. Ha, how busy I am!

Long weekend

Monday

I don't know whether anyone else all enjoy this long weekend. I was supposed to take a trip to Florida again, finally cancelled plan because of expensive tickets. Another reason is get off time doesn't match my families' schedule. So I just stay at home to watch TV and write assignment.

Oh, one of my friends just knew she got pregnancy. I think it should be good news for her, but she is not going to be a mom right now.  Of course, it's a crucial decision for people, good luck for her.

A book

Monday

I read a book named as the world is flat recently, written by Thomas Friedman. He said we are now facing a new version of Globalization. From now on, no matter where we are, as long as we have basic education background, we can plug any play anytime from everywhere, which means we are able to sit in front of the screen and meanwhile interacting with other 6 billion people in the world, anytime, anywhere, like never before.

I feel it's very interesting and illumine me a lot.

Marketing project

Tuesday

I have been a bit busy to update my web log. This week I focused on my marketing project presentation. My team has three members, we separated our jobs to four parts. Our topic is about medical devices, I am not familiar with this kind of theme, fortunately Mary worked in a hospital in Boston, she told us much knowledge about current medical device industry, such as strength, weakness, opportunities, and trends. To be honest, I think I get much information that I had never known. This Thursday is the date for our presentation. Hope everything being good!

Registration day

Today is the priority day for graduate student. I just finished my registration of Summer and Fall. There are few available capacity left, hehe, I think I don't need to worry about it any more.

It has almost pasted half of this semester by now. Some courses I got knowledge, but some I could not learn well. I think the reasons depend on different extent of difficulty for different courses. The more important thing is I already know how to use my energy and time efficiently to distribute to different classes. This is very helpful for me in the future when I have to take five classes next semester.

Snowing tonight

Monday

After Spring break, everything is gonna be normal.

Today I just finished one of my presentations of financial analysis. Professor requested us not just to use financial statement to interpret the situation of a company, we must beyond these statements. But you know, I am still confused with some ratios when I pick them up to draw a conclusion with which company is the best. I think it just my first step to learn financial courses, so it's normal for having problems. Actually professor is very responsible, he figures out each assignment and does great slides in the class. Maybe something related finance is going to be difficult, I need to spend more time to do it.

It was snowing when I went back home. In fact, I hardly arrive at Boston last Saturday because many flights were delayed. Everything in here is great except cold weather.

Windy Day

Thursday

Today it was so windy. Afternoon I met with my advisor to talk about my classes in the next semester. Because of time overlap, I have to give up one MBA course I should take for my future courses. Processor told me she would submit this kind of situation to the management department, but until now, nothing can be changed.

I heard almost 100 applicants applying MSA of Suffolk for fall 2007, it's a good news for school. Good reputation and excellent professors should attract more students to come here.

Next one week, We have vacation again. How wonderful!

A guest speaker

Thursday

Another group in my OB class invited a very interesting guest speaker on this Tuesday. Actually he is a professor of our university, and has many years work experience in the industry. He introduced us some funny things happened in his former companies and told us real financial situations about current firms. I was so impressed that he showed us a video clips from one speech of the graduate celebration in Stanford University, teaching us that we should find something we really love, and if we don't find that, just keep looking.

In my opinion, if people can enjoy their work, that would be the happiest thing in the world. For living, supporting house, cars, kids, we have to work. Job accounts for a big part of our life. I wish more people can enjoy their jobs, but actually they cannot. Why we go to school to take classes, I think many people want to change their life by changing jobs.

I came back!

Wednesday

Yesterday I came back from Florida. What a tired trip! Boresome checking and long time waiting almost droved me crazy. I hurried up to my class because our team had a leading discussion presentation. Fortunately every member shared thinking of this program in advance and we did a good job. But I feel my English still have a few problems when I talk with native speakers. How can I improve it? Friends told me to keep talking, it needs time.

The following two weeks is very busy, I need prepare my midterm exam. Fighting!
